Association for Friends of Ancient Phalasarna, in memory of  Nikos Kakaounakis

The Association for Ancient Phalasarna, in memory of  Nikos Kakaounakis, located at Phalasarna, Kisamos, Crete, was founded in 2011, and granted official status by the Court of Chania with Decision 226/2011 on 2/8//2011.


 The purpose of the organization is:

1. The display, protection, and preservation of the antiquities at the archaeological site of ancient Phalasarna.
2.  Restoration of the monuments within the archaeological area, and cleaning of the area.
3. Promotion of the site so as to assist in the tourist development of the region. 
4. Creation of a conference center to assist in the sharing of research findings in cooperation with other organizations and
5. The organization of excavations. 

All these activities will always be governed by applicable laws and supervised by the Department of Classical Antiquities in Chania, or other appropriate authorities.

The President of the Association is the director of Phalasarna excavations, Dr Elpida Hadjidaki
